Fencing is the dynamic result of the evolution of historic dueling traditions into a modern sport.
Fencing is one of only four sports to have featured in all modern Olympics.
It is a sport that combines high levels of physical and mental agility and is often known as “physical chess”.
People of all ages shapes, sizes and sexes begin and enjoy fencing.
There are three weapons in modern fencing; foil, epee and sabre.
They each have different rules and target areas and as beginner’s progress they tend to discover a preference for a particular weapon. Of course, all fencers believe their weapon to be the best of the three!
Charles Sturt Fencing Club was created in 2011 when a group of fencers from three different clubs came together to create a new club in South Australia’s only permanently set up fencing venue.
The club aims to cater for fencers of all kinds from beginners to the more experienced, the young and not so young, the recreational and seriously competitive.
Club members compete in local FencingSA events, national Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) competitions and various international competitions.
Contact Steve for further details.
The club opening hours are currently:
Tuesday 6.30-10.00pm

The Fencing Centre and club home is located at 4D River St, Hindmarsh.
It is the only permanently set up fencing venue in SA and this avoids time needed to set up and take down equipment for training.
It also allows CSFC to create a club atmosphere in its own exclusive premises.
There are presently 4 electric strips and this will be increased to 8 or 10 over the coming months.
The centre is available for occasional use by other clubs, groups or individuals.
Contact Steve for details.
Membership is open to anyone capable of holding a sword!
There are different categories whether you wish to become a full club member or just use the SA Fencing Centre facilities.
Contact Shayne for details.
The club has plenty of new equipment available for use for club members.
Club members are welcome to borrow club equipment free of charge to enter competitions.
